It’s my favorite time of the year. The time of the year when everyone is busier, spending more money and stressed. That hardly seems like anything to get excited about. It’s not. However, the reason that we’re busier, spending more and stressed is what we get excited about. To spend time with family and friends.
Family and friends are the reason it’s my favorite time of the year. Even as a child, the best part of Thanksgiving and Christmas was the fact that I knew I was going to around aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and other family members. Some that I haven’t seen in quite some time and we would all be enjoying that time together.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the presents as well and I made my Christmas list like everyone else, but it was the people that made it worthwhile. There were plenty of times that presents were hard to come by, but that didn’t matter because everyone still showed up. We hugged, we kissed, we ate, we laughed, we cried, we argued, we made up and we loved. It wasn’t the perfect scene, but that doesn’t matter because at the end of the day it was we were together, and it was great.
Love. Love and sharing moments are what the holidays are truly about.
It’s not the decorations, the gifts, the food or anything else. It’s the love that we share. When it comes to family and friends, the real gift is the time they decide to spend with you and the rest of the family and friends. Not the price tag of a gift, the number of gifts brought, or the amount of food cooked, but their time.
So, people get busier, spend money because travel costs can add up along with gifts and are stressed. All in an effort to see family and friends. To spend their time with them. With us. The best gift of all. The reason why I love the holidays so much.
Happy Holidays everyone!
