Every morning when you wake up, the first thing you should do is say thank you.
Say thank you for waking up to another day of life.
Say thank you for having been able to sleep in a bed.
Say thank you for having a place to sleep.
Say thank you for everything that you have.
If you don’t know what to say thank you for, take a minute today to look around and understand how blessed you are. The ability to walk, see, hear, and speak are all things to be thankful for. A place to call home, a bed, running water, heat and air conditioning, food in the fridge, shoes and clothes are also things to be thankful for. We take them for granted and don’t realize how special they are to us until they are taken away. It doesn’t have to be that way though. By saying thank you, you are practicing gratitude and you are put in the mindset to appreciate all the things we take for granted.
Practice gratitude for the life that you are living. Happiness comes more often and easier when you are grateful for the things and people you already have in your life. Do not focus on the things you don’t have or the things that others may have. More than likely, doing so will only make you feel worse about yourself.
There are so many things that we take for granted each day and we make ourselves unhappy because of it. There are things that we face everyday that may frustrate us to no end, but through the practice gratitude you will see that those frustrations will not consume you. You won’t carry them with you throughout your day and home to your family. It’s nothing more than small stuff that is irrelevant to the rest of your day and the rest of your life.
So, every morning when you wake up, say thank you.
